ABOUT DIR FLOORTIME
DIR® Floortime is a child-based approach that guides individuals through the FEDC's. Floortime helps them climb the FEDC ladder to be the most productive individuals they can be.
Who is Floortime for?
Floortime is a therapeutic intervention designed to facilitate regulation and social interaction among individuals. The approach is grounded in the Floortime model and underpinned by the Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDC) framework. The Floortime model is a comprehensive and evidence-based intervention that aims to promote the child's developmental progression by engaging them in a series of play-based interactions.
What are FEDC's?
Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDCs) represent a hierarchical structure of developmental stages that are employed by Floortime practitioners to evaluate the methods that can be utilized to assist the child in question. This evaluation framework is crucial in determining the best practices that will support the child's growth and development. By utilizing the FEDCs, practitioners can assess and address the child's individual needs and provide them with tailored interventions that promote their progress.
What is DIR?
DIR® stands for Development, Individual differences, and Relationship. It is the basis of how Floortime Practitioners work with children.
Starting with assessing the development of the child on the FEDC scale. Next, we evaluate the individual differences of the child, sensory needs, emotional needs, and regulation abilities. Finally, Floortime practitioners work on relationship building!
